Last Minute Father's Day Suggestions

This coming Sunday is Father's Day.  My own father passed away in 1962 and my sons have been grown a very long time, so I haven't thought much about Father's Day Gifts for awhile now.

Then yesterday it came to my attention that I know a lot of new fathers and fathers with small children and fathers with teenagers, so I thought I'd give you some suggestions for last minute gifts for those guys.

I'll make my suggestions by age group because I'm organized like that.  😉  Some suggestions are good for all ages though.

Ages 0-2
  1. Take a lot of photos of Dad with his baby or children and make a photo book keepsake for him.
  2. Buy a magnetic photo frame for the fridge to display today's favorite photo of Dad and offspring.
  3. Make some handprint art for Dad.
  4. Give Dad an admission ticket to the zoo or aquarium to make memories as a family
  5. Give Dad a "First Family Picnic Ticket" he can use on a day of his choice. (Mom provides the picnic basket.)
Handprint Art Examples
Ages 3-5
  1. Help them make Dad breakfast in bed. Cereal, pastries, fruit, etc. are good for this age group to "make."
  2. Have them draw a picture of their favorite time with Dad, and get them to tell Dad about the picture when they give it to him!
  3. Have them prepare a song to sing to Dad.  Be sure to record the performance on Father's Day!
  4. Have them help you bake and decorate a special treat for Dad.  Cookies, cupcakes, brownies, etc. would work!
  5. Have them plant some seeds with Dad so they can watch them grow together.  If they are vegetable seeds, they can enjoy eating the produce together too!
Ages 6-11
  1. Have them make Dad breakfast in bed.  This age group can actually do supervised cooking, so you could help them make eggs and toast and such.
  2. Give Dad a "Pampered Dad Day" coupon.  On "Pampered Dad Day" Dad gets to watch his favorite TV shows without interruption.  There are no arguments on this day, and homework is done without a reminder.  Rooms are cleaned. Dad is pampered.  If Dad asks for a glass of water or his slippers, the child or children brings those things to him without complaint.
  3. Give Dad a game like Uno, Jenga, or Connect 4 that you can play as a family.
  4. Read Dad your favorite book or a chapter of your favorite book.  Be sure to tell Dad why it's your favorite.
  5. Write Dad a story or poem or both!
Ages 12 and Up
  1. Wash the car for Dad.
  2. Do Dad's chores for a week.  Examples: Take out the garbage, cut the grass, etc.
  3. Give Dad breakfast in bed for a week.
  4. Polish all Dad's leather shoes and shine his belt buckles.
  5. If you are artistic, draw Dad a picture.  If you are musical, play or sing Dad a song.  If you are athletic, invite Dad to your next game or swim meet.  Share a bit of yourself with your Dad.  He'll like that best of all.
In case you and/or yours aren't really the "make it or do it yourself" kind of people, if you have Amazon Prime, you still have time to order something that will magically appear on your doorstep two days later.  Hmm...come to think of it...Amazon Prime would make a GREAT Father's Day Gift if you don't already have it!

Here are some suggestions:

This is precious.  It is a picture frame that says, "To Daddy on Our First Father's Day."  Of course you would need a photo to go in it. If you have a daughter, these necklaces would make an excellent present.
This is another version of the Father / Daughter necklaces. Your little daughter might also like to give her Daddy a "Daddy's Little Girl" book.
This T-Shirt is technically for your child. It says, "I'm Your Father's Day Gift." This book has handy projects for Dad to do with his kids.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a wonderful Father's Day this year!
